SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Longtime South Brunswick resident Mike Havardansky is running for Mayor on the Republican ticket. He will face South Brunswick Mayor Charles Carley in the general election on November 8th, 2022.
"South Brunswick has been neglected for far too long. With your help we will restore our great township utilizing a fiscally responsible and common sense approach,” says Havardansky on his campaign website, “It’s completely one party rule right now, we need opposing views now and again to have a different perspective.”
Mr. Havardansky has lived in South Brunswick for 25 years with his wife Kathy, they raised their two sons in the neighborhood. He serves as the Vice President and Controller of Premiere Brands Groups, a woman’s apparel company. His background is in management, which he feels makes him a qualified candidate for Mayor.
“Managing budgets and finances is what I have been doing for the last 35 years. Looking for efficiencies and ways to reduce expenses wisely should be key to any legislation,” said Havardansky.
He is an active member of St. Augustine’s Church in Monmouth Junction. When his children were younger, he was active in boy scouts and coached little league.
Mr. Havardansky is running on the platform of infrastructure, quality of life, transparency and efficiency. Areas of concern for the mayoral candidate include improvements to Route 1 and Route 27, financial efficiency, and giving South Brunswick a “sense of community.”
A broader issue for him is what he calls “quality of life” in South Brunswick, meaning the lack of attractions to keep people in town. Mr. Havardansky expressed frustration about the constant investment in warehouses instead of places to bring the community together, such as movie theaters, bowling alleys, and community hubs.
“I hear a lot about how there's nothing for people to do anymore around town, especially for kids. I think there are plenty of old buildings and facilities that can be repurposed into something the town can use '' said Mr. Havardansky,“Seems like all new development is either a warehouse, storage facility, or extended stay motel. We need economic development that makes South Brunswick a place people want to come to while keeping the small town feel.”
