South Brunswick, NJ Mayoral Candidate 2022
South Brunswick, NJ Town Council Candidate 2022
Mike Havardansky - I’ve lived in the Kingston section of South Brunswick for the last 25 years with my wife, Kathy of 26 years and my two sons, Michael and Alex who are 24 and 20, respectively. My older son went through South Brunswick schools and my younger son went through Catholic school at Saint Augustine’s and Saint Joes.
WHY I AM RUNNING:
Transparency and efficiency. I went out on the town web site to get a copy of the budget and all that is out there for 2021 is the last page, not very transparent. Lack of transparency leads to corruption and mistrust. Accounting and finance is my background so I want to make sure every dollar is spent efficiently and appropriately and that what the town spends it’s money on is made public as much as possible.
Infrastructure, specifically roads and traffic. In the 25 years I’ve lived here I can’t recall the roads ever being as bad as they are now. Seems like all they do is patch cracks and fill pot holes. Beside that the population in this town has almost doubled in the time I have lived here and we have done nothing to deal with that. Rt 1 and 27 are exactly as they were 25 years ago. Rt 1 is three lanes wide in every other town, South Brunswick is the bottle neck.
Quality of Life. It feels as though South Brunswick as lost its sense of community. I think it’s sad that if you want to have fun you have to leave town to do it. When I moved here we had the Kendal Park roller rink, Kendal Park Movie Theater. Where the giant used car lot is there used to be Rumble Seats and a Friendly’s. Seems like all new development is either a warehouse, storage facility or extended stay motel. We need economic development that makes South Brunswick a place people want to come to while keeping the small town feel.

"South Brunswick has been neglected for far too long. With your help we will restore our great township utilizing a fiscally responsible and common sense approach."
John Anthony
WHY I AM RUNNING:
Sense of Community
I want to restore the sense of community that was a driving force in our town. South Brunswick had a sense of community throughout the town. There were places to go for entertainment, like movie theaters, skating rinks and businesses where people could gather to spend time with each other. There were multiple, thriving restaurants in town. Now, if you want to do anything, you need to travel out of town. By restoring our feelings of community developing more small businesses, we can make South Brunswick a diverse, family friendly community and destination for people from other towns to visit.
Returning to a Balanced Government
Our governing body is based on checks and balances. A one-sided group in office can go unchecked and do the bare minimum without challenge. There is no drive to do more to help our town excel.
Development of our Town
Making additions to our town is an excellent way to expand our diverse community. Additions need to be done in a way that protects our environment and our infrastructure. The roads are getting more congested. We are having flooding in areas we’ve never had flooding before because we are changing the natural flow and saturation rate of water. Our schools are more crowded. Builders are constructing high density housing communities with no regard to the capabilities of our existing infrastructure and no responsibility to make improvements to accommodate the additional housing. I will make sure future additions to our town are done in a responsible manner. There should not be too much of a burden on our existing community.

"Sitting back and watching South Brunswick being slowly drowned was something I could no longer tolerate. Mike and I are asking for your support so that we may right this ship for all that live, work, visit and pass through this wonderful town. We truly are in this together."
Participating in elections is one of the key freedoms of American life. Many people in countries around the world do not have the same freedom, nor did many Americans in centuries past. No matter what you believe or whom you support, it is important to exercise your rights.
